The large popcorn with butter probably helped, but I found myself enjoying Avatar more than I expected.

Hard not to like a fierce and feminine main character. And a paralyzed veteran who can suddenly run marathons through the jungle.

I found myself emotionally drawn into their techno-color world, in spite of my initial anti-blue skin, yellow teeth racial bias.

And imagine – special effects/ computer animation used to create a world pulsing with glowing color. Take note of that, you screen writers, who up to now have employed technology only to portray evermore spectacular violence.

What connected with me most, though, in the movie were the connections. Living links from the tail of the Avatars to the animals, to each other, to their deity. Plugged into each other, they united in their will and desire and actions. The final scene of glowing worship at the tree communicated joy and unity more thanany Christian video I’ve seen.

Whether Cameron intended such an application, he provided a visual image of real spiritual connection. Suddenly I can visualize a physical picture of being in Christ, in fellowship with all believers.

Apply this picture to Jesus’ words, prayed the night before he went to the cross. Watch them come alive in vibrant neon colors:

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one, as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17 21-23
